John C. Dent, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. After relocating to Florida he played football at Chamberlain High in Tampa and then as a Florida Gator at the University of Florida. He graduated from Florida Law in 1966. Since 1967, he has practiced extensively in the areas of Civil Litigation, Business and Contract Law, Real Estate and Ad Valorem Taxation. He is also an experienced appellate attorney.
After honing his skills practicing with other firms, Dent established his own firm of Dent, Pflugner, Rosin, Haben & Hendricks in 1979. From there he moved on to Culverhouse & Dent in 1984 as he represented the development of the Palmer Ranch. During the next decade he practiced in a multi-faceted general law firm with a team of attorneys focusing on results driven services.
Today, he practices with his daughter, Jennifer McClain, who adds to the practice with her expertise in Family Law and Estate Planning.
Mr. Dent, in addition to his professional affiliations, has been involved in numerous religious, charitable and community organizations. He coached the Ringling Redskins and served on the board of Children’s Haven. He is also a member of the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, Golden Gate Point Association, Marina View Condo Association and The Board President of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
